Secondary macular hole (MH) development following rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) surgery is a rare complication. Various risk factors have been identified in relation to its pathogenesis. Although spontaneous resolution may occur in some cases, MH surgery is required in the presence of persistent MH beyond 2-3 months, an increase in hole size, and/or a gradual decrease in visual acuity. This case series presents two cases that developed secondary MH accompanied by epiretinal membrane (ERM) and cystoid macular edema (CME) in the late postoperative period following vitreoretinal surgery for RRD. MH surgery was performed in both cases, resulting in anatomical and functional improvement. This case series aims to discuss the pathophysiology, treatment, and prognosis of secondary MH.
