The objective of this study is to provide a comprehensive perspective by conducting a systematic review (SR) of articles focusing on key issues such as the main challenges, success factors, strategies and policies for improving rural health services (RHS). A SR was conducted utilizing a range of databases, including PubMed, Web of Science and Google Scholar. The review was limited to studies published between 2019 and 2023. A total of 5,281 articles were initially screened, and 52 articles were ultimately included in the study. The analysis revealed common challenges in RHS, including limited resources and workforce shortages. However, it also identified community engagement and targeted interventions as effective strategies for addressing these challenges. The policy recommendations predominantly concentrated on the allocation of financial resources, the enhancement of educational opportunities and the implementation of infrastructure upgrades. The results provide a comprehensive overview of the factors influencing the efficiency of RHS and offer practical recommendations for practitioners and policy makers aiming to improve service delivery in rural areas.
