COMPARISON OF LABORATORY VALUES AND SYMPTOMS IN HEALTHCARE WORKERS WITH AND WITHOUT VACCINES DIAGNOSED WITH COVID-19

Aim: The inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine (CoronaVac), approved as a result of various studies conducted in many countries around the world, was actively administered in many countries. In this article, it was aimed to examine healthcare workers who were diagnosed with COVID-19 who were administered both doses of the Sinovac vaccine, and also to compare the data with healthcare workers who had COVID-19 before being vaccinated. Materials and Methods: Among the staff vaccinated with CoronaVac in two doses, those diagnosed with COVID-19 after vaccination were included in the study group. The control group included healthcare workers who were employed at the same institution before vaccination began in Türkiye and who were diagnosed with COVID-19. Laboratory data, CT scan results, and symptoms were obtained by scanning the hospital automation system. Results: A total of 54 patients with confirmed COVID-19 were enrolled in the study, including 26 individuals in the post-vaccination group and 28 in the pre-vaccination group. In the pre-vaccination group, 3 patients required hospitalization, whereas none of the vaccinated patients were hospitalized. Severe dyspnea (p=0.027), intense myalgia (p=0.018), and fever (p=0.018) were significantly more common among unvaccinated patients compared to vaccinated individuals. With the exception of AST and PLT levels, there was no significant difference in laboratory parameters between the two groups. Conclusion: In our study, our findings indicate that although vaccinated individuals were diagnosed with COVID-19, they survived the disease with less distress than unvaccinated people. Larger-scale studies are needed to evaluate post-vaccination COVID-19 outcomes.
