Pruritus is the most prevalent and burdensome dermatologic symptoms among patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Historically referred to as "uremic pruritus," this terminology has been replaced by "chronic kidney disease-associated pruritus" (CKD-aP), as serum urea levels were found not to correlate with symptom intensity.
