FREQUENCY OF ANAEMIA IN PATIENTS REFERRED TO INTERNAL MEDICINE OUTPATIENT CLINIC AND ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH SOCIODEMOGRAPHIC FACTORS

Aim: Anemia is recognized as a global public health issue. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of anemia and its associations with selected sociodemographic factors among patients presenting to a tertiary care internal medicine outpatient clinic. Methods: This retrospective cross-sectional study included 8536 patients who presented to the Internal Medicine outpatient clinic of Harran University Faculty of Medicine Hospital between July 2023 and July 2024. Data were obtained through the review of hospital records to determine the prevalence of anemia and its association with sociodemographic characteristics. The analysis of the obtained data was performed using SPSS version 26.0. Results: Among the 8536 patients included in the study, 2630 (30.8%) were male and 5906 (69.2%) were female. The mean age of the participants was 40.9+/-17.7 years (range:15-97).
