HIGH-RISK DRUGS IN PERFUSION APPLICATIONS: MOLECULAR MECHANISMS AND INFORMATION EVALUATION

Aim: This study aimed to assess perfusionists' knowledge of the molecular mechanisms and pharmacogenetic determinants of high-risk drugs. Materials and Methods: This descriptive, cross-sectional survey study was conducted among clinical perfusionists. The questionnaire included items measuring awareness of molecular pharmacology, genetic polymorphisms affecting drug response, and personalized treatment approaches in perfusion practice. Results: The majority of participants demonstrated moderate knowledge, with limited awareness specifically regarding molecular and pharmacogenetic mechanisms. Additionally, perfusionists who had received supplementary training exhibited significantly higher scores in the molecular and pharmacogenetic knowledge subdomain compared to those without such training (7.5+/-1.2 vs. 6.5+/-1.5; p < 0.001). Conclusion: Integrating the molecular mechanisms of high-risk drugs in perfusion applications into perfusion training and clinical practice can significantly improve drug safety, treatment efficacy and patient-specific management.
