Objective: The relationship between platelet activation and psychiatric disorders has been previously investigated by several studies. The aim of the present study was to investigate any probable difference in the platelet indices of patients with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder(ADHD). Methods: The records of a total of 47 children with ADHD (aged 6-16 years), diagnosed using the DSM-V, have been scanned. The study consisted of 47 patients, who were admitted to our hospital, and 50 healthy controls (aged 6-16 years). Platelet indices, including platelet count, MPV, PDW, and PCT levels were retrospectively recorded. Results: The MPV, PDW and PCT values in the ADHD group were found to be increased significantly compared to those of the healthy control group. (p<0.001). Conclusion: Platelet indices may be important to display ADHD’s etiology. Although the significance and cause of increased MPV, PDW, and PCT levels in ADHD remain unclear in our study, further studies are warranted to investigate relationships among MPV, PDW, PCT levels, ADHD in children.
