Liver metastases developes half of patients with colorectal cancer, and when these metastases can be resected patients espect with a median overall survival of around 3 years. However only 10% to 20% of patients have a resectable disease at the presentation. Surgery is the only potentially curative treatment, and therefore should be the first therapeutic option in patients with resectable disease. Survival for five years or more is very rare among the patients with unresected hepatic metastases who receive conventional chemotherapy or supportive care. This grim outlook has increased the development of current treatments as preoperative portal vein embolization, local ablative, destructive procedures, neoadjuvant chemotherapy, repeat hepatectomy and two-stage hepatectomy aiming to improve resectability. The aim of the present study was report the and review the current literature and knowledge and determine the efficacy of new treatment in metastatic colorectal carcinoma to the liver.
