In 2011, Professor Ozaki introduced a standardized technique for aortic valve (AV) repair utilizing glutaraldehyde-treated autologous pericardium (AP) as a surgical alternative to valve replacement for managing aortic valvular disease, which replaces each valvular leaflet with an AP. Preserving the natural valve tissue could potentially prevent complications with prosthetic materials and the requirement for long-term anticoagulation.
