NURSING STUDENTS' INDIVIDUAL INNOVATION LEVELS AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ATTITUDES AND CONCERNS

Objective: This study aimed to examine the relationship between nursing students' individual innovativeness levels and their attitudes and anxiety related to artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. Method: Descriptive, cross-sectional study. The study was conducted between November 30 and December 30, 2024, with 411 nursing students at a university in western Turkey. Data were collected using the Personal Information Form, the Individual Innovativeness Scale, the General Attitudes Toward Artificial Intelligence Scale, and the Artificial Intelligence Anxiety Scale. Data were analyzed using SPSS 22.0, with statistical significance set at p < .05. Results: The mean score of the Individual Innovativeness Scale was 69.23+/-10.46. Higher academic year students had higher scores in individual innovativeness than their junior counterparts. The mean score of the AI Attitude Scale was 68.77+/-10.26, while the mean score of the AI Anxiety Scale was 43.46+/-11.76. Students exhibited overall positive attitudes toward AI. A statistically significant difference was found in anxiety scores by age, with students aged <=20 showing higher anxiety (p<.05). There was a moderate positive correlation between innovativeness and AI attitudes (rs=0.453, p=.000), and a moderate negative correlation between innovativeness and AI anxiety (rs=-0.374, p=.000). Conclusion: As nursing students' levels of individual innovativeness increased, they demonstrated more positive attitudes and lower levels of anxiety toward AI technologies.
