Objective: To evaluate pregnancy outcome in patients with renal allograft transplantation. Study Design: We reviewed 13 pregnancies in 11 renal transplant recipients. The results of pregnancy, the effects of pregnancy on renal allograft, and the status of the neonates were analyzed. Student's t test was used for statistical analysis. Results: The mean interval between transplantation and conception was 28.4 months. There were 7 term and 3 preterm deliveries, 2 therapeutic and 1 spontaneous abortions. The mean gestational age was 37.2 and the mean birth weight was 2990 g. No congenital abnormalites were detected. Preeclampsia was the most complication that present in 32.3% of all pregnancies. Mean serum creatinine before pregnancy was 1.17±0.04 mg/dL and 1.20±0.03 mg/dL after delivery (p: 0.68). There were no rejection or graft dysfunction during pregnancy and 6 weeks after delivery. Conclusion: Pregnancy after renal transplantation is well tolerated and relatively safe for most transplant recipients. However; therapeutic or spontaneous abortion, prematurity, and maternal complications as toxemia of pregnancy are increase in these patients.
