We present a comprehensive overview of historical evolution and scientific developments in the field of head transplantation research. Recognizing the complexity and controversy surrounding this topic, our review extends beyond technical intricacies and seeks to illuminate lesser-explored historical and sociocultural dimensions. We examined the pivotal contributions of Dr. Sergio Canavero, acknowledging his role in highlighting head transplantation, while critically appraising the public discourse surrounding the 2017 cadaveric study. Our objective is to offer a historical perspective, integrating the technical advancements in head transplantation with an in-depth exploration of its ethical implications and societal impact. In doing so, we aspire to contribute to the understanding of this speculative and challenging area of medical science, emphasizing the need for historical awareness in discussing its future potential.
