A series of schiff and N"Maraiich bases of isatin (indol-2,3-dione) were designed with the aim to develop novel antimicrobial agents of synthetic origin having broad spectrum of activity and high potency. The chemical structure of all the compounds was established by means of UV, IR, 1H NMR spectra and elemental analysis(C,H,N).The compounds were then screened for in vitro antibacterial & antifungal activity against 25 pathogenic bacteria and 5 pathogenic fungi respectively. Most of the compounds showed high to moderate activity against all tested microbes.
