The motor unit (MU) is the fundamental building block of the nervous system related to motor function. From a descriptive perspective, we can describe it as the structure that includes the alpha motor neuron's cell body, dendrites, as well as the axon from the apex region and all the muscle fibers it innervates. It is a structure formed by the union of two anatomically distinct structures: muscle fibers and neurons located in the anterior horn of the medulla spinalis. Understanding this distinct cellular structural partnership, which must be evaluated functionally together, is crucial for understanding and studying the characteristics of motor ability and its diseases.
