Aim: This study was to assess the effect of thyroid hormones (T3, T4) therapy in the prevention of Gastric Mucosal Lesion (GML) in Thyrotropin Releasing Hormone (TRH) induced ulcer model. Material and Methods: 64 rats were divided into f our equal groups. In Group I (Sham), only Intra-Cerebro-Ventricular (ICV) injection of serum physiologic was done. In Group II (Control), ICV injection of TRH was done. T3 (intraperitoneally) and T4 (intramuscularly) treatments were done in Group III and IV, respectively just after ICV injection TRH. Five hours later, Gastrectomy was performed. GMLs were assessed macroscopically and histopathologically. Results: No GML was found in group I. In group II, GMLs were seen in 13 rats (81.25%). In each therapy group (III, IV), GMLs were occurred in 2 rats (12.5%). There was a significant difference between sham and control group (p: 0.0002). Significantly higher rate of GMLs were observed in control group compared to therapy groups (p: 0.0007). There was no statistical difference between sham and therapy groups (p> 0.05), and also between T3 and T4 groups(p>0.05). Conclusion: Our results showed that thyroid hormones therapy can prevent TRH induced GMLs.
