THE IMPACT OF HEALTH COMMUNICATION PROBLEMS ON DISTRUST IN HEALTH CARE SYSTEMS: THE CASE OF KONYA

This study aimed to examine the impact of health communication problems experienced by individuals receiving health care services on their levels of distrust in health care systems. A descriptive research design employing a quantitative methodology was use d. Data were collected using an electronically administered survey. The study sample consisted of individuals aged 18 and over residing in Konya who had accessed health care services. A total of 384 participants with diverse demographic characteristics vol untarily participated in the research. Data collection instruments included the 'Health Care Systems Distrust Scale' and the 'Health Communication Problems Scale.' The data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 25. To assess group differences and compare mean scores, the Independent Samples t -test was applied for variables with two categories, while One -Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used for variables with three or more categories. Post -hoc analyses were conducted using the post -hoc (LSD) t est to determine specific group -level differences. The findings indicated that individuals who receive the health care services and experience health communication problems exhibit moderate to high levels of distrust in health care systems. In addition, bo th health communication problems and levels of distrust significantly differed across various demographic groups. Statistically significant positive correlations of varying strength were also observed between health communication problems and distrust in h ealth care systems.
