The Turkish Board of Pediatrics is an independent, nonprofit organization established by the leading nongovernmental organizations in pediatrics in Turkey, Turkish National Society of Pediatrics and the Turkish Institute of Pediatrics. The Turkish Board of Pediatrics was created to advance the science, study, and practice of pediatrics by evaluating the credentials of physicians applying for certification as pediatricians, by examining applicants, and by certifying those who qualify. Certification includes initial specialty certification and maintenance of certification throughout the physician's career. The purpose of certification is to provide assurance to the public and the medical profession that a certified pediatrician has successfully completed an accredited educational program and various evaluations, including an examination, and possesses the knowledge, skills, and experience requisite to the provision of high-quality care in pediatrics. The Turkish Board of Pediatrics will also evaluate the academic curricula of pediatric departments in training hospitals throughout Turkey and give recommendations to the Ministry of Health.
